Hertford Street

The renovation of a block of ten Grade-II listed Georgian terraces and conversion into a private members club in Shepherd Market, Mayfair. Of the buildings five floors, basement, ground and first are private members bars, restaurants, and retail space. The site had been empty and partially derelict since the closure of Tiddy Dols Eating House in 1998. The site was very challenging because the ten houses were never intended to be joined and there is a significant fall in the topography across the site. Changes in level had to be coordinated with building regulations and accessibility requirements. Furthermore, the ‘doughnut’ nature of the buildings that surround an internal ‘smoking’ courtyard, made the concealment of services a complex exercise.

Skene Catling de la Peña developed a detailed scheme for the site that was successfully taken through a complex licensing, planning and listed building consent through to tendering.
