Skene Catling de la Pena

Old Church Street (London, 2005)

Skene Catling de la Peña were among a group of six architectural practices invited to design a scheme for an entirely enclosed site very restricted by planning, light and sightlines on Old Church Street.

This scheme works within the extreme limitations of the site to develop a new contextual language using optical game and the sensuality of materials to open up and maximise the space.

New forms of urban landscapes are explored as vertical gardens and contoured planes punctuated with lakes and caves. This was presented as a series of 3D stereographic images where the drawing itself becomes an architectural model.
